The 10th UNESCO Chair on Media and Gender Forum was held on Wednesday online.
About 100 experts, scholars and guests from 23 countries, including China, attended the forum, which was themed "Women's International Communications and the Building of a Human Community with a Shared Future".
Lin Yi, Vice-President of the All-China Women's Federation, said at the opening ceremony that in the past decade, the role of Chinese women in socioeconomic development has been highlighted.
Women these days are better educated, enjoy more social security benefits and have been increasingly contributing to democracy building and politics, she said.
Tian Yuhong, executive secretary of the All-China Journalists Association, said that properly depicting women is important because a positive women's image can contribute to a positive national image, showing the progress of a country's social civilization.
Li Mingshun, secretary of the Party Committee of China Women's University, said that the university plays an active role in promoting academic research and social media practices concerning Chinese women.
He said that the university will carry out more international exchanges to help tell Chinese women's stories.
